Roy Varkey Moolechalil

               Rev. Fr. Roy Varkey Moolachalil is the current Vicar of St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Detroit. Fr. Roy arrived in July 2015. Fr. Roy was ordained in December 29, 2004.

Fr. Roy received his undergraduate training at St. Alphonsa Minor Seminary, Thamarassery, Kozhikode, Kerala then graduated in BA in 2000 from Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam, Kerala. Then pursued a higher degree in MA in 2004 from Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, India. Fr. Roy’s theology diploma from Pontifical Institute of Theology and Philosophy, Alwaye, Kerala was received in 2004.

After pursuing these degrees, Fr. Roy started serving as a parochial vicar (associate pastor) in St. Joseph’s Syro Malabar Catholic Church, Pulloorampara, Kozhikode, Kerala, India from 2005 to 2006 and Holy Family Syro Malabar Catholic Forane Church, Karuvarakundu, Malappuram, Kerala, from 2006 to 2007.

In July of 2006, Fr. Roy became pastor of St. Sebastians Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Pathirikode, Malappuram, Kerala, India where he remained for 1 years. Then served as Pastor St. Mary’s Syro Malabar Catholic Church, Vaniyambalam, Malappuram, Kerala, India for three years.

In May of 2010, Fr. Roy became the Director at Thamarassery Diocese Director of Catholic Women’s Council (CWC), Marian Singles and Director of Women’s Commission of KCBC in the diocese of Thamarassery. During this period, Fr Roy was a Pastor at St. Joseph’s Syro Malabar Catholic Church Nooramthode, Kozhikode, Kerala, India. He remained there till 2013.

Fr. Roy served as the Assistant Vicar of Mar Thoma Sleeha Cathedral, Bellwood, IL, 60104 from May 2013 till July 2015, before arriving at St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Detroit.
